Where to Eat in Quebec City

One of the best parts about visiting Quebec City is the food scene. From cozy traditional Québec restaurants to casual pubs and charming coffee shops, there are so many great options.

Whether you're looking for a hearty breakfast, a relaxed lunch, or a cozy dinner after exploring the city, these are some of the best places to eat in Québec City based on our visits.

La Bûche

If you're looking for a fun restaurant that captures the spirit of traditional Québec culture, La Bûche is a great spot.

We have been here for both breakfast and drinner. The restaurant has a lively, rustic vibe inspired by traditional sugar shack culture, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth visiting. The breakfast is a large hearty meal and the dinner is just as plentiful! Despite the large quantities the food quality is great! I will definitely stop by the next time I am there!

As a heads up, the shared bathroom sink is actually a bath tub! An interesting surprise the first time I visited.

Aux Anciens Canadiens

This historic restaurant is known for traditional Québec cuisine and sits inside one of the oldest houses in the city.

The space is cozy and charming. We came here for dinner and while the food was decent, it wasn’t our favorite meal of the trip. The atmosphere felt a little more touristy than we expected, though it’s still a popular spot for visitors wanting to try classic Québec dishes.

Still worth considering if you want to experience a traditional restaurant while visiting Québec City. We did a prefix, three course menu.

Q-De-Sac Resto-Pub

Located on a corner in Old Québec, the restaurant has a cozy ski lodge–style vibe inside. At first glance it feels like a casual pub, but the food is actually quite good. We split a pizza and a pasta dish. We definitely preferred the pasta, but both are decent options.

Above the bar there is a live counter of the restaurant’s Facebook likes. We tested it ourselves and watched the like go up! We thought it was a fun touch!

If you’re looking for a relaxed place with hearty food and a cozy atmosphere, this is a great option. Its also in a great location next to tons of shops!

Pub Saint-Alexandre

If you're looking for classic bar food with a lively pub atmosphere, this is a great spot.

Located on Rue Saint-Jean in the heart of Old Québec, this pub is known for its huge selection of beers, whiskeys, and scotches, plus an international pub menu.

They often have live music, which makes it a really fun place to spend an evening.

Things to know:

  • Great spot for pub food and drinks

  • Huge beer selection (300+ options)

  • Can get busy, especially at dinner time. Either get a reservation or if there is no space, the place next door is owned by the same people and still a fun bar!

Pub Borgia

This is one of our favorite, if not our favorite spot in Old Québec, and we always stop here when we visit.

It’s located right along Rue du Petit-Champlain and has tons of character inside. The vibe is cozy and fun, especially in winter when the whole area feels like a storybook village.

We’ve eaten here for snacks and lunch, and while the food is typical pub fare, it’s a great place to grab something casual along with a drink.

The drinks, staff, and atmosphere are what really make this place stand out. It’s the kind of pub you pop into for a quick drink and end up staying for a while.

Dining at the Château Frontenac

One of the fun parts of staying at (or even just visiting) Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is having the chance to eat inside such an iconic landmark.

We ended up having a casual meal at one of the restaurants inside the hotel and both ordered burgers, which were really good and exactly what we were in the mood for after a day of exploring Old Town.

One of the highlights of dining here was the view overlooking the St. Lawrence River, which makes the experience feel extra special. Sitting inside such a historic and recognizable building while enjoying the view is definitely part of the charm.

Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, it’s worth stopping in for a meal or drink just to experience dining inside one of the most famous hotels in Canada. It’s a great way to take a break from walking around Old Quebec while still soaking up the history and atmosphere of the city.

Best Casual Bites & Snacks

Mary’s Popcorn

Yes, it’s a little touristy but it’s also really good. Completely worth it! You can’t walk by the store without grabbing some it smells so good!

If you’re walking around Old Québec and want a quick snack, grabbing a bag of popcorn here is definitely worth it. It’s a fun treat while wandering the historic streets.

Best Coffee Shops in Québec City

Café La Maison Smith

If you need a coffee break while exploring Old Town, this café is a great stop.

There are multiple locations throughout the city, including one near the historic cathedral area, which makes it easy to pop in while sightseeing.
